Privacy Policy
ShowUppp is a workout log. It keeps what you log so it can show it back to you. It has no ads and no tracking, it counts only how the app is used, not what you log, and it sells nothing about you to anyone.
Without an account
You can use ShowUppp without signing in. Everything you log stays on your device, in the app's own storage. Your workouts stay on the device, and we do not see them.
With an account
Signing in turns on sync between your devices. You sign in with Apple or Google through Supabase, the database provider that hosts ShowUppp's sync. When you do, we store:
- Your email address and the Apple or Google account ID, to know which records are yours. If you sign in with Apple and choose Hide My Email, the only address we receive is Apple's private relay address. If you sign in with Google, Supabase also keeps the name on your Google account; ShowUppp does not show or use it.
- What you log in the app: workouts, sets, runs and other activities, plans, bodyweight if you record it, and your app settings, including the name you give the app.
Each account can read and write only its own workout record. We use it to keep your devices in sync. A separate private registry assigns your permanent Showing Up Club member number to your account. You can read only your own number; the app cannot change it. When you delete your account, the link to your account is removed and only the retired number remains, so it is never assigned to someone else.
If you sign in with Apple, we also keep a token Apple gives us for your sign-in, for one reason: when you delete your account, we use it to tell Apple to revoke ShowUppp's access, as Apple requires.
Membership
In the iPhone app, your first 20 logged days are free (a logged day is a day you record at least one set or activity; days you only open the app do not count); after that, starting a new day and the session writer are part of a paid membership. Your history, editing and export stay free.
- Apple handles the payment. Your card and billing details stay with Apple; we do not see them.
- RevenueCat keeps your membership status (whether it is active, and when it renews or ends), tied to a random ID from the app and, if you are signed in, your account ID. The app also gives RevenueCat its anonymous device ID and version (see Usage counts) so a purchase can be counted with the device that made it. We use it only to know whether your membership is active.
- Our server keeps a copy of that status for signed-in accounts (plan, status, when the period ends), sent to us by RevenueCat, and counts new memberships and cancellations the same anonymous way as the usage counts below. Your account can read only its own row; it is deleted with your account.
Usage counts
To know whether ShowUppp is working for people, the app sends a few anonymous counts to our server: that the app was opened today, that a day was logged and which day it was (your 1st, 2nd, 20th…), that a backup or export was made, and that the session writer was used. Each count carries only:
- a random ID the app makes for your device, which is not linked to your phone's own identifiers or to any other app;
- where you first came from, if you arrived by a link that says so (for example, from Hacker News);
- whether it is the iPhone app or the website, and the app version.
If you are signed in, the count is also stored against your account ID; deleting your account removes that link and keeps only the anonymous count. The counts do not include your workouts, exercises, weights, reps, plans, notes, name or email. They are used only to improve ShowUppp, are read only by us, and are not sold, shared or used for advertising. Nothing is tracked across other apps or websites.
The session writer
ShowUppp can write a workout session or a week for you. This happens only when you tap Write. At that moment the app sends a summary of your recent training to our server, which forwards it to Anthropic's Claude model and returns the session:
- Your last eight weeks of sets: dates, exercises, weights and reps.
- Your exercise list, and figures the app computes from your history (which body parts are due, how your recent sessions were built).
- The objective you pick and any note you type.
It does not send your name, your email, or your day count. Our server does not store the request or the answer. Anthropic processes it under its commercial terms, which do not allow it to train models on this data. If you do not tap Write, none of this is sent.
Reading a routine you bring
When you bring your routine into ShowUppp during setup, the app asks the same model to read it into days you can plan from. If you paste it, the app sends the text you pasted. If you import your history, it sends a summary of the last eight weeks: the date of each workout and each exercise with its top set. Both go with the app's exercise list, your unit and your goal. Nothing is sent unless you tap Read my routine or See my routine, and the same terms apply: our server does not store the request or the answer. Without a connection, the app reads it on your phone instead.
The daily AI allowance
To keep the AI affordable, our server counts how many AI requests (written sessions and routine readings) come from each account, or from each device when you are not signed in, per day. It stores only a scrambled form (a one-way hash) of the account ID, the app's anonymous device ID or, failing both, the network address, together with the day and the count. Counts older than a week are deleted.
Optional location and weather
Only when you choose Allow location, ShowUppp requests your current location once. You can decline and continue using every workout feature. There is no background location tracking. Before sending, the app rounds coordinates to two decimal places (roughly a kilometre). Our Supabase function sends these approximate coordinates to Photon (operated by komoot, using OpenStreetMap data) for a city name and to MET Norway for an estimated weather snapshot. These providers receive our server's request, not your workout, name or account ID. Their infrastructure may log these requests. The function keeps a bounded, short-lived in-memory lookup cache; it does not write coordinates to your workout record or database.
Only the city/region, estimated conditions and capture time are saved with that day. They travel with backups and, if signed in, sync to your other devices. They appear on that day's shared card when you choose to share it. Remove below the card deletes this metadata from the current record and syncs that removal; previously downloaded backups and shared images are not changed. This is a snapshot of where you are when you add it, not an inferred past workout location or verified observation of past weather.
Location data: © OpenStreetMap contributors, via Photon. Weather estimates: MET Norway, CC BY 4.0; the app selects the nearest forecast time and may convert Celsius to Fahrenheit. Lookup availability is not guaranteed.
Who else handles your data
- Supabase hosts the sync database and runs our server functions, including the one that receives the usage counts.
- Apple handles sign-in when you choose Apple, and membership payments.
- Google handles sign-in when you choose Google.
- RevenueCat keeps membership status.
- Anthropic writes sessions and reads routines you bring, only when you ask.
- Photon/komoot and MET Norway provide city and weather estimates, only after your location consent, as described above.
- GitHub Pages serves the app's files and its updates. Like any web host, it sees the IP address of the device downloading them.
We share nothing with anyone else, and nothing for advertising.
Deleting your data
- Delete your account in the app: Settings → Account & cloud sync → Delete account. This permanently erases your account and everything synced to it, and clears the copy on that device.
- Sign out removes your data from that device only. Your synced copy stays, so you can sign back in.
- Without an account, deleting the app deletes your data.
You can also email us to have your account deleted. Before deleting, you can download everything you've logged with Backup in Settings.
Children
ShowUppp is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and its effective date.
